Parsela — The Shipment Intelligence Layer for Freight Forwarders
Parsela is a shipment intelligence layer between your inbox and your TMS — purpose-built intelligent document processing (IDP) for freight. It resolves shipment identity from scattered emails and PDFs, scores operational readiness against freight-specific gates (customs-filable, BL-releasable, invoice-ready), and surfaces regulatory gaps before they become customs incidents. Built for mid-market freight forwarders on CargoWise, Magaya, GoFreight, Descartes, or custom TMS.
Unlike general-purpose IDP platforms retrofitted for shipping, Parsela was built for freight workflows from the first line of code. Identity resolution, readiness gates, regulatory rule injection, and field-level audit are core architecture — not add-on modules.
What Parsela does
- Shipment identity resolution. A 4-tier identity cascade (House BL, Master BL, generic BL, booking reference) groups documents into the right shipment from scattered signals over days. Weaker signals like container numbers and vessel-voyage pairs are audited but never trigger a merge — a false merge in freight is a compliance incident.
- Readiness gates mapped to freight workflow. Every shipment is scored against three gates: customs-filable, BL-releasable, and invoice-ready. When a gate is missing a field, operators see which field. No guessing.
- Stuck-shipment alerts before the customer calls. When booking or shipping instruction documents arrive but no BL has materialised within the configured threshold, the operations team is alerted to chase the carrier.
- Booking amendment with audit. Carrier re-issues, customer changes, consolidation splits or merges, operator corrections — each amendment carries a reason code, effective date, and triggering document. Append-only audit trail.
- Regulatory rule injection, deterministic. Country-specific rules (customs, labelling, destination) are applied deterministically for the shipment's country and document type. No probabilistic ranking.
- Field-level ownership state. Every field carries state — Parsela-proposed, human-edited, locked — so the system respects operator edits rather than overwriting them.
Supported document types
Parsela models 42 freight document types including Bill of Lading, Sea Waybill, Air Waybill, Shipping Instruction, Booking Confirmation, Cargo Manifest, Delivery Order, Packing List, Certificate of Origin, Proof of Delivery, Commercial Invoice, Debit Note, and more — across 660 modeled field specifications.
How it works
Documents arrive via email (IMAP polling), web upload, or API. A classifier routes each email and attachment through a cost-tiered pipeline — deterministic rules handle common patterns without frontier AI calls. Extraction uses deterministic-first methods (ISO 6346 container check digits, UN/LOCODE port codes, HS chapter validation, carrier BL patterns) before reaching for language models. Documents of title (BL, SWB, AWB) pass through a two-model cross-check. Each shipment's completeness is scored against freight-specific readiness gates and pushed to the customer's TMS via webhook when gates clear.
Who Parsela is for
Mid-market freight forwarders, NVOCCs, and customs brokers processing 50–500+ shipping documents per day. Teams on CargoWise, GoFreight, Magaya, Descartes, or custom TMS systems who need shipment intelligence, not just document extraction.
Current status
Parsela is pre-GA, accepting design partners. A small number of freight forwarders and NVOCCs are shaping the product before general availability. For design partner conversations: sales@parselaai.com.
